Nanyang Academy Of Fine Arts students debut at London Graduate Fashion Week 2012…

Two graduating students from the Department of Fashion Studies at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) Singapore had the privilege of showing their final year collections to an international audience this June.  BA (Hons) Fashion Graduate Elizabeth Soon, 21, and BA (Hons) Fashion and Marketing Graduate Charlene Hoon, 24, represented NAFA at Graduate Fashion Week in London on 10th June 2012, as part of the graduate collections from University of East London.  UEL is the partner University for NAFA’s degree programme for fashion studies, offering a one-year top up course for graduates to attain a BA (Hons) Fashion or BA (Hons) Fashion and Marketing qualification.

This is NAFA’s debut at the prestigious GFW. NAFA is also the first Singapore Institution to showcase its student’s work on the catwalk alongside the best UK universities. Known as the biggest graduate event in the world, the annual GFW is held in London to showcase the year’s best new talent under one roof to top fashion houses, fashion retailers and international press. From Sunday 10th June to Tuesday 13th June, GFW featured final collections by fashion graduates from 21 leading universities from across the UK and the world.

Mr William Teo, Head of Department of Fashion Studies at NAFA said,

“It is an exceptional opportunity for NAFA to showcase creative ideas and talents from Singapore to the international fashion industry and we are honoured to present them on the same platform as UK’s fashion students. GFW has proven to be an important platform for aspiring designers and launched the careers of internationally renowned British fashion designers such as Stella McCartney, Christopher Bailey and Hussein Chalayan. Our participation is testament to a high quality programme at NAFA, nurtured by dedicated lecturers and boosted by students passionate about their craft.”
